Dyche believes Danny Ings would be worthy of a senior England call-up

Danny Ings has been backed for a future England senior call-up following his impressive recent form with Burnley.

The Clarets striker is already a regular for Gareth Southgate’s Under-21s side and netted his eighth Premier League goal of the season in Sunday’s game with West Bromwich Albion.

And Burnley boss Sean Dyche admits he finds it hard to disagree with calls for the 22-year-old to get a chance in Roy Hodgson’s squad.

Ings scored two goals against Portugal at Turf Moor last November

"He's a fine talent, there's no two ways about it," admitted Dyche.

"I can see why there are certain people in the media asking about England call-ups, not necessarily to start but in the squad."

Ings was strongly linked with a move away from Turf Moor during the January transfer window, with a number clubs from both home and abroad rumoured to be keen on the former AFC Bournemouth player.

But with Ings committed to the Clarets’ cause, Dyche was pleased to see that the speculation hadn’t left too much of an impact on his performance.

"He was excellent again," added Dyche.

"He's effervescent, his movement, his quality at times. He's growing into the league, he's understanding it better.

"He's a tremendous talent and we're delighted we stuck to our word and he's still a Burnley player."

Ings’ Under-21s strike partners have also been in good form, with Spurs striker Harry Kane, West Brom’s Saido Berahino and Middlesbrough’s Patrick Bamford all amongst the goals of late.

And all four of them will be battling it out to lead the line for the Three Lions at this summer's Euro Championship Finals in Czech Republic in June.

Southgate’s team face two matches next month, playing against Czech Republic in Prague on Friday 27 March before facing Germany at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium on Monday 30 March.
