Danny Ings celebrates his goal against West Brom

England captain Wayne Rooney played his part as Manchester United salvaged a late draw against West Ham at Upton Park.

The Hammers thought they had recorded a famous victory over Louis van Gaal's side thanks to a superb strike from Cheikhou Kouyate early in the second half.

But United refused to lie down and Daley Blind broke the hearts of the east London faithful when he grabbed an equaliser in added time.

Phil Jones and Luke Shaw also featured but the match ended on a disappointing note for Shaw when he was shown a red card late in the game for two bookable offences.

England forward Stewart Downing was impressive for West Ham once again and was a constant threat to the United defence.

In the early kick-off England Under-21s forward Danny Ings continued his impressive form in the top flight as he netted his eighth goal of the campaign.

But Burnley will feel disappointed that they threw away a two-goal lead and had to settle for a point against West Brom, for whom Saido Berahino came off the bench.

Meanwhile Jack Colback, who was called up by Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson last August, had to settle for a point as his Newcastle side were held 1-1 by Stoke at St James' Park.

Colback got his name on the scoresheet with an impressive finish in the second half but he was denied victory as Peter Crouch, who has netted 22 goals in 42 England appearances, scored with a looping header in the final minute.
