Middlesbrough ace Ben Gibson wants to see a packed house at the Riverside Stadium on Monday 30 March when the England Under-21s take on Germany.

The 21-year-old has been a regular in Gareth Southgate’s side this season, as the Three Lions have reached next summer’s Euro Finals in Czech Republic.

And Gibson admits he cannot wait to face fellow Finalists Germany on his own home turf, as tickets prices for the game were announced.

“It’s something that I’m already really looking forward to,” he said. “Hopefully we’ll get a good turn-out and get a lot of fans behind the team.

“To play for my country, if selected of course, in my home stadium will be a fantastic moment for me personally.

“All the fans around the country relish any chance we get to play against Germany, so hopefully they’ll come out in numbers.”

Boro boy Ben Gibson will be hoping to play a part

Boro have made a good start to their own campaign in the Championship, with Aitor Karanka’s side riding high in the table.

And academy graduate Gibson has played a big part in that, being a regular choice for Karanka in the centre of the Boro defence.

With the support generated by Boro’s good start, Gibson is now hoping the feel-good factor can continue for the Under-21s.

“We’ve been well-backed lately as a club and hopefully that can continue with the Under-21s, especially when we’ve got such as exciting group as we have,” he added.

“I have no doubt that they’ll get behind us and support the team.”

With Germany tipped to be one of the favourites for success in the Finals next summer, they will offer England a tough game as both nations looks to fine-tune for the competition in June.

And after facing Portugal and France already since qualification was secured, Gibson is looking forward to another challenge for the team.

“The game is exactly what we need,” he said.

“We want to test ourselves against the best and there’s no better opportunity to do that than in these next games.

“They’ll be really good tests and we’re always looking to set markers for ourselves to see where we’re at when we play against these better teams.”
