Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain admits he's delighted to be back in the England fold following his recovery from injury.

The Arsenal man missed five months of the season after sustaining a knee injury but has shone since returning - most notably against Crystal Palace when he scored both goals in a 2-0 win.

He has been rewarded with a call-up for England's World Cup warm-up against Denmark on Wednesday and now wants to take the opportunity to earn a place in the squad for Brazil

"I have been working for five months to get back on to the pitch so this is a nice reward to be in the team," he said.

"You always have to be on your toes and take the opportunity when it comes. I am still a young player and learning my trade as I go along.

"When I get the opportunities, I have to try my best and show what I can offer."

Chamberlain's last outing for Roy Hodgson's side came back in August against Scotland, but it's memories of his goal in the Maracana last June that spur him on.

England drew 2-2 with Brazil in a friendly and it gave the former Southampton winger a taste of what could come this summer if he can nail down a place in the final 23.

"When you are injured for a long period of time, looking back on moments in your career is inspiration and motivation to continue the hard work," he said.

"I'm not going to lie, I did have a few looks back at that moment and it kept me working hard - now I am back and fit and focused."

Chamberlain on England's young talent

Chamberlain is also full of praise for Luke Shaw, his old team-mate at St Mary's, following the 18-year-old's call up.

He said: "The likes of Luke, Ross Barkley and the other players - I still consider Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge young players - there's a lot of young players coming through.

"It is a credit to the academies in England as to what we have to offer."

He added: "Luke has been absolutely outstanding. His consistency level and maturity is unbelievable.

"I saw him come through the ranks at Southampton and he has grown physically. It has been a rapid rise but he has handled it really well. His performances have been brilliant."

The Ox speaks about competition for places

Chamberlain continued: "It's the biggest England squad I have been involved with. It is nice to see a lot of faces around - to get everyone together and a bigger number is definitely exciting.

"Again, competition for places ups the level and tunes us in a bit more.

"As individuals, it's our responsibility to put in good performances and influence the manager. That's all we can do as young players."

He said: "More competition really does make sure everyone is right at it, whether it's in training or in a game.

"I think it's good for our manager as well to be able to see all the options he has."
