Adam Lallana hopes to use Wednesday night's game against Denmark as a chance to impress Roy Hodgson with the World Cup beckoning.

The match against the Danes takes England one step closer to this summer's main event in Brazil.

Hodgson must choose his 30-man long squad by 13 May, before narrowing down to a final 23 in early June.

This week's international is the final opportunity for players to stake a claim in a Three Lions shirt before that May deadline, and the Southampton midfielder hopes his performances can keep him in the manager's mind.

"We are thinking about it now because we are at our last friendly match before the end of the season," he said.

"Everyone is concentrating on their own form but it is about England when we're together. It's the last time we will see each other as a big group until May."

He added: "It's early days at the minute and I will take it moment by moment.

"Everyone wants to impress. I am sure the manager will be watching us at our clubs so hopefully everyone plays well and makes things tough for him.

"We want to concentrate on playing well and show what we can do on Wednesday night."

Lallana also believes his Southampton team-mate Luke Shaw fully deserves his chance with England after the left-back was rewarded with his first call-up.

Shaw has been included following an excellent season and he could feature against the Danes.

"It will be great for us all to gain some experience this week and hopefully get some minutes on Wednesday night," said Lallana.

"I am not surprised [Luke] has been called up. He has been outstanding all season.

"It is not easy when you're 18 and meeting up with the Senior team. It is nerve-wracking but he has settled in fine.

"The lads have all played a part in that. He enjoyed his first session and I am sure he is better now."

Lallana continued: "It was massive news for him and his family. It was a proud moment for him, as it is for anyone when they get called to the senior squad.

"Nothing has fazed him so far in his development. He has come up against some of the best wingers in the world and he has proved he is good enough for England.

"The squad is filled with a good mixture. Hopefully that can be a recipe for success on Wednesday and the summer."
