Suarez and Sterling fired Liverpool to the top of the Premier League

England Under-21 winger Raheem Sterling scored as Liverpool defeated Cardiff City to go top of the Premier League.

The Reds won courtesy of a rampant first-half performance, with Luis Suarez celebrating his new contract with the club by firing a brace with Sterling’s goal sandwiched inbetween, giving them a three-goal lead at the break.

Fellow Three Lions' Glen Johnson, Jon Flanagan, Jordan Henderson and Martin Kelly all appeared at Anfield, and despite Jordon Mutch grabbing a goal back for the visitors midway through the second-half, Liverpool held on to win.

England’s number one Joe Hart returned to Manchester City’s starting line-up as they faced Fulham at Craven Cottage.

City led at the break thanks to goals from Yaya Toure and Vincent Kompany but a spirited second-half fightback from Fulham tied the scores - but they were to suffer heartbreak as City bounced back.

Jesus Navas put them back in front before England international James Milner settled it by adding a fourth.

Danny Welbeck continued his impressive run of form as he opened the scoring at Old Trafford as Manchester United defeated West Ham.

Goalkeeper Ben Foster returned from injury for West Brom as they drew 1-1 at home to Hull City.

In the Championship, England Under-21 forwards Danny Ings and Nick Powell were on the scoresheet.

Burnley striker Ings grabbed his 17th of the season as the Clarets defeated Blackpool 2-1 at Turf Moor and Powell scored the second for Wigan Athletic as they won 2-1 away Reading.

Fellow Under-21 forward Patrick Bamford was amongst the goals as MK Dons blew Port Vale away in a 3-0 victory in League One.

Fraser Forster kept a clean sheet as Celtic defeated Hearts at 2-0 at Parkhead in the Scottish Premier League.
