Danny Welbeck is hoping his hard work on the training ground can pay off with a chance to play in his favoured role of centre-forward.
The Manchester United and England forward has had to feature around the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie over the last 18 months, often playing in a wide role.
But with the United strike pair injured at the moment, Welbeck has been playing through the middle and responded with two goals in the win against Aston Villa last weekend - something which he hopes to build on.
"Unfortunately, Robin has got injured, so I might have a chance up front,” admitted Welbeck.
"Obviously it is not my decision about where I play.
"But as I have said plenty of times before, I am happy to play for Manchester United in any of the attacking positions.
"In any case, I want some more goals, I can tell you that."
United boss David Moyes spoke of the importance of extra work on the training ground for some of his younger players earlier this week.
And that’s something which the 23-year-old has never shied away from, having come through the ranks at Old Trafford where there’s always been a real training ground culture of staying out for extra work.
"I have been doing that ever since I was a young kid," added Welbeck.
"Obviously I have been injured this season so maybe the manager has not seen me on the training pitch as much.
"I just want to keep on getting better and improving, and those extra hours on the training pitch, whether it be with the boys or individually, will hopefully help me do that."
Welbeck will be hoping to keep himself fit and in form for England’s first game of 2014 against Denmark at Wembley.
