Huddersfield are up to second in the Northern Division

With many FA Women’s Premier League teams in Women’s SSE FA Cup action on Sunday there was a reduced fixture list with just five games across the two divisions.

Huddersfield Town though took the change to move up to second in the Northern Division with C&K Basildon and Bradford City also claiming all three points.

NORTHERN DIVISION

Lucy Sowerby’s powerful first-half header from a Kate Mallin corner was enough to give Huddersfield a 1-0 win over Fylde.

The win moves Huddersfield up to second in the league table, five points behind leaders Middlesbrough who have played two games less.

Fylde remain eighth but have only played eight games, the joint lowest in the league, so have plenty of matches in hand to move up the table.

Laura Elford’s goal gave Bradford City a narrow 1-0 win over Derby County and move them up to ninth while Guiseley Vixen’s match with West Bromwich Albion was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

SOUTHERN DIVISION

Portsmouth recorded their seventh win of the season with a 1-0 success over Queens Park Rangers thanks to Katie James’ second half strike in a tight affair.

Elsewhere, C&K Basildon kept the pressure on Charlton Athletic at the top of the league table as they came from a goal behind to beat Swindon Town 3-1.

Town remain without a league win this season after 15 games while Basildon are just two points behind the league leaders.

Crystal Palace and West Ham United played out a goalless draw.

GAME OF THE WEEK

Fylde put up a real fight against an in-form Huddersfield Town side on Sunday and the visitors came close to snatching a point from the game.

Sowerby’s header after 36 minutes proved crucial and keeps Town very much in contention at the top of the Northern Division.

MANAGER OF THE WEEK

C&K Basildon boss Steve Tilson will have been a relieved man after seeing his side fall behind to bottom club Swindon Town.

Basildon responded perfectly to take a 2-1 lead into the break and with Zoe Rushen adding the gloss in the second half to move her side into second.

GOAL OF THE WEEK

Katie James scored the pick of the goals this weekend as she found space in the Queens Park Rangers area on 75 minutes before firing home.
