Arsenal celebrate their 2016 SSE Women's FA Cup success

Arsenal kicked off the defence of their SSE Women’s FA Cup title in super fashion, by beating local rivals Tottenham Hotspur 10-0 at Meadow Park to advance to the quarter-finals.

The Gunners started strongly and after several near misses finally took the lead on 22 minutes when Danielle Carter – who scored the winner in last season’s Wembley final against Chelsea – drove home Jordan Nobbs’ pass.

Just before the half-hour mark Dominique Janssen and Carter added two quick-fire goals, before Kim Little and Danielle van de Donk gave Arsenal a five-goal cushion at half-time.

Van de Donk completed her hat-trick in the second half and her goals sandwiched efforts from Chloe Kelly, Beth Mead – on her debut – and Katie McCabe to complete the rout.

Last year’s SSE Women’s FA Cup runners-up Chelsea were also big winners as they beat Doncaster Rovers Belles 7-0.

Crystal Dunn opened the scoring on her home debut after 12 minutes, before two Ji So-yun goals gave the Blues a healthy cushion.

An own goal from Leandra Little and new signing Ramona Bachmann handed Chelsea a 5-0 half-time lead.

And while Doncaster Rovers Belles improved after the break they were unable to prevent Katie Chapman and Drew Spence from adding their names to the scoresheet.

In another local derby Liverpool and Everton couldn’t be separated at full-time with goals from Natasha Harding and Simone Magill seeing the tams level after 90 minutes.

But in the 108th minute Shanice van de Sanden headed home an Ali Johnson cross to send the Reds through.

Notts County are also through to the quarter-finals, but they were made to work hard for it by Yeovil Town before eventually winning 3-2.

Captain Jade Moore gave Notts County a slender half-time lead before new signing Kirsty Linnett double their advantage ten minutes after the restart.

A Lucy Quinn penalty five minutes from time send Notts County nerves jangling, but moments later an own goal sealed the hosts’ victory, even though Yeovil had the last laugh with a Kelly Snook strike.

Sunderland were also 3-2 winners as they saw off Aston Villa at The Hetton Centre. The Black Cats led 2-1 at half-time with Vicky Williams and Hayley Sharp goals cancelling out an effort in reply for Tash Baptiste.

Aston Villa equalised after the break through Lucy Shepherd but after a handball in the box Lucy Staniforth held her nerve from the penalty spot for the win.

Goals in each half from Jess Carter and Ellen White saw Birmingham City beat West Bromwich Albion 2-0, while a Lucy Bronze goal was enough for Manchester City to advance to the final eight with a 1-0 win over Reading on Saturday.

And Bristol City will also be in the hat for the quarter-final draw as two goals for Millie Turner and Lauren Hemp, as well as one for Jodie Brett saw them beat Millwall Lionesses 5-0 on Sunday.

In the Premier League Northern Division, Derby County were big winners as they beat Fylde 5-0, with Nottingham Forest squeezing past Bradford City 2-1 and Leicester City and Huddersfield Town drawing 2-2.

And in the Southern Division, bottom-side QPR battled hard but fell to a 1-0 defeat at Lewes, while C & K Basildon and drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace.
