Wayne Rooney slams home his record-breaking goal

Wayne Rooney cemented his place in Three Lions history this year by smashing home a record 50th England goal.

But perhaps more notably it allowed Rooney to surpass Bobby Charlton’s 45-year goalscoring record of 49 goals.

Rooney’s claims to be voted Vauxhall England Player of the Year for 2015 are strengthened by the fact he guided his country through a flawless Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

He played in eight of England’s 10 matches this year and scored five goals – against Lithuania, Slovenia, San Marino, France, and the most famous one, against Switzerland at Wembley.

Rooney is one of the five contenders for the Vauxhall England Player of the Year for 2015 and polls are now open for the award, with members of the England Supporters Club able to cast their vote for one of the five candidates.

Now it is up to you to help decide which Three Lions players you think deserve the honours for their performances in 2015. Voting for the two awards closes at midnight on Sunday 3 January 2016.
