England CP defeated Portugal 3-0
England Cerebral Palsy recorded a convincing win against the hosts of next month’s European Championships in their opening game of the International Trophy of 7-a-side Football at Ciutat de Barcelona.

Portugal began with a couple of efforts from long distance that were safely taken by goalkeeper Giles Moore before England began to exert their superiority.

Alistair Patrick-Hesleton was unfortunate not to finish with a close range effort as the Three Lions dominated, but it took until the 25th minute for England to take the lead through a fine finish from Alex Mullin to give his side the lead at the break.

The second half saw much of the same dominance from the off and a couple of early efforts were wasted to stretch the lead further. The pressure did eventually tell though as James Blackwell rose well at the back post to head home a well delivered corner midway through the half.

They finally made the game safe near the end of the game as George Fletcher scored with a diving header at the back post once again.

England have further games to come against Tunisia on Saturday and the USA on Sunday.

England: G. Moore (Ryan Kay), M. Sinclair (c), J. Blackwell, E. Rudder (G. Fletcher) , A. Patrick-Heselton, J. Brown (R. Fox), A. Mullin

Goals: A. Mullin 25, J. Blackwell 38, G. Fletcher 54
