England MU18s squad head to Spain for games with Russia, Norway and Czech Republic

England MU18s are on their travels again this month, heading to Spain for three games

England MU18s follow in the footsteps of their younger colleagues from the MU17s this month, as they head to Spain for three games at the Pinatar Arena.

Head coach Ian Foster has named his squad for the trip, which will take in games against Russia, Norway and Czech Republic.

New faces include Newcastle United’s attacking midfielder Joe White and Leicester City goalkeeper Oliver Bosworth.

“One of our key aims this season is to see as many players as we can,” revealed Foster.

“We’ve not got a couple through injury but we have two new goalkeepers, plus some uncapped players and some who haven’t been with the U18s this season, so it’s a great chance for us to assess the squad.

“In the last camp, we gave the squad a really unique challenge with three games in three different countries, which tested them physically, psychologically and logistically.

“We learned a lot, not only did we win the three games but we were really pleased with how they handled the demands. It will definitely help prepare them for tournament football at U21 and senior level.

Ian Foster is looking forward to more games on the road this month

“This camp will be quite different, with all three games in Pinatar. We’re expecting physical tests and a lot of football, which is different to what a lot of players might be used to at club level.

“We’ve faced these teams before and they were difficult games, but it’s good to continually test ourselves and to face the sorts of teams we might come up against in U19 EURO qualifying next year.”

This trip comes on the back of a successful trip to central Europe last month for the Young Lions, when they picked up wins over Poland, Slovakia and Austria.

And it follows on from Kevin Betsy’s U17s, who played against Germany and Spain at the same venue in October.

The Young Lions will play Russia first on Thursday 13 November (2pm GMT), before tackling Norway on Saturday 16 November (2pm GMT).

Their final game against the Czechs is on Monday 18 November (2pm GMT) with all three fixtures being staged at the Pinatar Arena, near Murcia.
