Blackburn Rovers are toasting silverware once again after they got their hands on the FA Women’s National League Cup for the second season in a row.
Rovers, who had already sealed a third successive Northern Premier Division crown, humbled Crawley Wasps 3-0 in Burton to seal a league and cup double.
Elsewhere, in league action, the likes of Derby County and Huddersfield kept themselves in position for a fine finish while there was an extraordinary individual display from a Chichester City player in the Southern Premier Division.
FA WNL Cup
Saffron Jordan was the star of the show as Blackburn sealed double delight at the Pirelli Stadium.
The Rovers striker found the net twice and picked the perfect time to bag her 100th goal for the club as she opened the scoring by flicking home after Lauren Davies had worked Natasha Flint’s cross into her path.
Early in the second period Flint’s assured finish made it 2-0, leaving Crawley staring down the barrel, and Jordan rounded things off with a brilliant second, the Blackburn ace lashing home into the top corner after weaving past a raft of challenges.
Northern Premier Division
Derby County and Huddersfield Town kept their hopes of finishing as Northern Premier Division runners-up alive with home victories.
Just two points separate Sunderland in second and Middlesbrough in fifth, and Derby find themselves third after a narrow 1-0 win over Sheffield, Cara Newton grabbing the only goal of the game to ensure her side are on course for their highest-ever FA WNL finish.
Meanwhile, Lucy Sowerby’s hat-trick inspired Huddersfield to a 5-2 win over Guiseley Vixens.
Sowerby struck twice in the first half and went on to bag her third from the penalty spot, Kate Mallin and Laura Elford also on target.
And on Friday, Nottingham Forest won the Nottinghamshire County Cup for the fourth successive year, Helena Constantinou’s goal sealing a 1-0 triumph over Ollerton.
Southern Premier Division
Southern Premier Division champions Coventry United didn’t take their foot off the gas, Amber Hughes cracking home a hat-trick as they won 5-2 at Plymouth Argyle.
Amy Wathan and Rosie McDonnell were also on target for United, who had already sealed the title.
Elsewhere, Cardiff City secured second place by recovering from a goal down to win 2-1 at MK Dons while Chichester City humbled Queens Park Rangers 3-0.
Tammy Waine was the undoubted star of the show, finding the net before deputising in goal after Lauren Dolbear had been sent off – Tash Stephens and Lauren Cheshire also found the net.
Portsmouth ran out 2-0 winners at Oxford United and there was also a comfortable triumph for Watford, who beat C&K Basildon 3-1.
And five-star Loughborough Foxes racked up their 10th win of the season with a 5-0 win over Gillingham.
