Holders Manchester City beat Brighton 2-0

Emily Poole scored the decisive penalty as Cardiff City earned the shock of the SSE Women’s FA Cup fourth round by knocking out FA Women’s Super League side Oxford United.

It was a busy day throughout the competition with both FA Women's Premier League and FA Women's Super League sides progressing to the fifth round of the competition.

Here's the five things we learned:

Randall helps Cardiff to cup shock

FA Women’s Premier League side City held United to a 0-0 draw in normal time with Poole keeping her cool to earn a 5-4 win on spot kicks and a place in  the fifth round.

Earlier, goalkeeper Estelle Randall had pulled off a great save to deny Oxford’s Emily Allen in the opening stages with City’s Ffion Price making a goal-line block to keep it goalless.

Oxford continued to press in the second half with Hannah Short’s header hitting the post while Randall was called into action again in the final moments of the 90 to deny Taome Oliver.

Short would hit the bar again in extra-time as Cardiff continued to defend resolutely and eventually forced a shootout which Poole eventually settled.

Holders march on

Holders Manchester City are safely through to the fifth round after a 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion thanks to goals from Izzy Christiansen and Claire Emslie.

Christianen’s 12th goal of the season came from a powerful strike on the stroke of half-time with Emslie sealing the win on 66 minutes as she fired past Lucy Gillett.

Goals galore for Sunderland and Chelsea

There was a comfortable 13-0 win for FA WSL1 side Sunderland against Brighouse Town while Chelsea also reached double figures against London Bees with a 10-0 success.

Dominique Bruinenberg (two), Bridget Galloway and Hayley Sharp all got on the scoresheet in the first half for Sunderland with Lucy Staniforth and Mollie Lambert both grabbing second-half hat-tricks.

Georgia Gibson got her first Sunderland goal with Sharp earning her second to round off the scoring and a convincing win for the Black Cats.

Chelsea were in equally clinical form with Erin Cuthbert securing her first hat-trick for the Blues while Fran Kirby and Katie Chapman both grabbed a pair of goals.

Ji So-yun, Millie Bright and an own goal saw Chelsea reach double figures against the FA WSL2 London Bees side.

FA WSL teams avoid shocks

Elsewhere, FA WSL1’s Liverpool were 5-0 winners over Watford and Arsenal cruised through with a 3-0 success away at Yeovil Town.

German midfielder Marisa Ewers’ goal gave Birmingham City a 1-0 win away at Reading while Everton were 3-1 winners over divisional rivals Bristol City.

Doncaster Rovers Belles were 3-0 winners at Tottenham Hotspur, Millwall Lionesses beat Coventry United 4-1 and Durham are through after a 2-1 win over Sheffield FC.

Teams from FA WPL are in the hat

Three FA Women’s Premier League sides in Chichester City, Lewes and Charlton Athletic are in the draw for the fifth round though after Sunday’s matches.

The lowest ranked side in the fourth round, Midlands Division 1 side New Saints, drew 1-1 with Chichester only to be beaten 5-4 on penalties.

Kim Bebbington had given New Saints the lead after half an hour but Cherelle Khassal levelled for the visitors and that’s how it stayed throughout extra-time.

And after eight successful penalties, Saints’ Emily Ridge saw her spot kick saved by Sadie Wilson-Blakely and Jess Lewry stepped up to send Chichester into the next round.

Georgia Griffin was the hero for Charlton Athletic as her extra-time goal, from a Charlotte Gurr cross, sealed a dramatic 3-2 win over Blackburn Rovers.

Lewes are also through after a 3-0 win at Keynsham Town while high-flying Middlesbrough were knocked out by a 4-0 defeat to FA WSL2 side Aston Villa.

Plymouth Argyle's game against Leicester City was postponed due to an unplayable pitch.
