On the night of Friday 18 November, Wembley Stadium played host to the FA Women’s Football Awards for the second successive season, with Arsenal’s Jordan Nobbs named the Vauxhall England Player of the Year and Chelsea midfielder Millie Bright voted Young Player of the Year.
Manchester City followed their unbeaten league and FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup double, with a trio of awards as England defender Lucy Bronze picked up the FA WSL 1 Players’ Player of the Year, Nick Cushing was awarded FA WSL Manager of the Year and their achievements on and off the pitch earned them the Club of the Year accolade too.
FAWPL winners included Middlesbrough’s Lindsey Stephenson (Manager of the Year), Brighton & Hove Albion (Club of the Year) and Blackburn skipper Lynda Shepherd, who was hailed the Premier Division’s Player of the Year. All top scorers and best players from across the regional divisions were acknowledged too.
The awards also recognised work off the pitch, with Crawley COGS picking up the #WeCanPlay Participation Award and Jen O’Neill and She Kicks magazine given a special award for Contribution to Women’s Football in Media on the 20th anniversary of their print publication and coverage, promotion and support of the women’s game. While former England player and head coach Hope Powell CBE was recognised with the Outstanding Contribution to Women’s Football award.
