Lionesses squad named for Euro qualifying double-header

England have made it to the Euros with two qualifiers to spare

Mark Sampson has handed Millie Bright her first England senior call-up for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 qualifying double-header against Estonia and Belgium.

The 23-year-old has been in fine form for Chelsea over the last couple of seasons and is no stranger to the senior set-up, having trained with the squad at St. George’s Park a number of times.

Claire Rafferty and Danielle Carter have been recalled to the fold. Rafferty’s last match for England was the 0-0 draw with France in March, while Carter scored a hat-trick against Estonia on her debut last September.

The Lionesses have already made it to next summer’s Euro finals, sealing qualification with a 7-0 win in Serbia in June.

England, who are two points clear of Belgium at the top of Group 7, will entertain Estonia at Meadow Lane on Thursday 15 September before completing their qualifying campaign in Leuven five days later.

Sampson said: “We may have qualified for the Euros but our focus for our last two qualifiers is absolute.

“We are a top team and that means we must top our group. We know we face two challenging matches but our focus is two wins to go to Netherlands as group winners.

“I know this group of players will fight hard to get the two wins we want.”

“She now joins us with experience of Champions League football and a high number of WSL appearances for both Doncaster and Chelsea.

“And she showed during the recent Next Gen camp she is ready for a senior call-up.”
