Head Coach Dan Micciche believes his side will go into Tuesday’s game with Finland in “buoyant mood” – but says recovery is key with less than 18 hours to prepare.

Micciche’s Young Lions were in rampant form on Monday as they hit five past Iceland to get off to a winning start at the Nordic Tournament.

The performance left him pleased, particularly how well his youngsters managed to control the match.

“The first ten minutes was tough going – Iceland started very well. They were a physical side,” Micciche told TheFA.com.

“The heat was a challenge for the boys as well, but once we settled down we had a lot of expansion in our possession and worked them around the pitch in a calm and composed way and I think we wore them down.

“Once we got the first goal we just went forward from there.”

All 18 members of the squad were used during the clash at the Nr Aaby Stadium, and Micciche believes that will prove vital in the showdown with Finland.

“We managed to get all 18 players on. As soon as we got the third goal we wanted to save legs and give some of the new ones a feel for the tournament.

“We still have a few things to bring up with the squad, things like managing the game and not getting into physical battles when it isn’t necessary to risk injuries, but this is why we are here.

“It is all about development and exposing them to these situations so that when they move through the age groups they are better prepared.”

He added: “The lads had an ice bath afterwards and recovery is going to be key ahead of Tuesday.

“We’ve been able to rest some legs, so we have been able to plan ahead for tomorrow and get them rested up.

“They are in buoyant mood and I hope we can come out firing at the same level against Finland.”
