Arsenal kept their hopes of a record-extending 15th triumph alive with an emphatic 4-0 win over 2013 winners Wigan Athletic in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Sunday's earlier ties were all much closer as the four other Premier League sides in action were pushed hard by lower-league opposition.

Leeds United edged past Birmingham City 4-2 on penalties thanks to keeper Lucas Perri’s heroics, after their clash finished 1-1 after 120 minutes in the day’s early kick off.

Fulham came from behind to beat Stoke City 2-1 in one of three games settled by a solitary goal, as both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sunderland battled to 1-0 away wins against Grimsby Town and Oxford United respectively.

Arsenal remain on course

Arsenal produced an imperious performance on their way to breezing past Wigan Athletic 4-0 in a repeat of their 2014 FA Cup semi-final clash.

The home side started brightly and took the lead on 11 minutes through Noni Madueke’s finish after excellent work from Eberechi Eze, who span clear of a challenge before producing an exquisite pass to find his teammate.

The Premier League leaders doubled their lead just seven minutes later when Eze again acted as provider, this time setting up Gabriel Martinelli, who found the far corner from a tight angle.

Jack Hunt’s unfortunate own goal stretched the Gunners’ lead even further after Bukayo Saka, who was a late replacement for Riccardo Calafiori who got injured in the warm up, cut the ball back.

It was 4-0 just before the half-hour mark thanks to Gabriel Jesus’ neat, lifted finish over Latics keeper Sam Tickle, before Kepa Arrizabalaga pulled off an excellent save from Joe Taylor to deny Wigan before the break.

There were no further goals in the second half, but the damage had already been done as Arsenal took their place in the fifth-round draw in style.

Leeds spot on at Blues

Leeds United book their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup but only after being taken all the way to penalties by a spirited Birmingham City.

In front of 28,035 at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, the home side made a strong start with Jay Stansfield's half-volley forcing Perri into a fine fingertip save.

The game was goalless at the break, but it was the Premier League side who broke the deadlock four minutes into the second half.

Lukas Nmecha finished smartly at the near post for his seventh goal of the season having been played in by Noah Okafor.

Birmingham then rallied as Stansfield, August Priske on full debut, and Carlos Vicente all went close, before Ibrahim Osman fired wide late on.

But Patrick Roberts kept the tie alive with a stunning left-footed effort which deflected off James Justin to forced extra time.

Spot kicks followed after the extra 30 minutes failed to produce a winner, and Perri put Leeds in control after denying Tommy Doyle before Roberts then fired over.

That presented Sean Longstaff with the chance to win the encounter, an opportunity he duly took.

Fulham smash Potters’ hopes

A second-half comeback was required from Fulham at the bet365 Stadium to secure their spot in the draw for the FA Cup fifth round with a 2-1 win.

Stoke City led at halftime after midfielder Bae Jun-Ho's thumping finish put the Championship outfit ahead on 19 minutes.

Kevin levelled the tie five minutes before the hour mark for the visitors, who were in the ascendancy during the second 45 minutes, before Harrison Reed found the winner in the 84th minute, profiting from Stoke keeper Tommy Simkin’s error.

Solitary goals see Wolves and Black Cats progress

In difficult conditions at Blundell Park, Wolverhampton Wanderers fought past League Two Grimsby Town with a 1-0 win.

Santiago Bueno netted the game’s only goal on 60 minutes as the Uruguayan guided the ball past Mariners goalkeeper Jackson Smith via his thigh after connecting with Joao Gomes' cross.

At the Kassam Stadium, Habib Diarra's first-half penalty settled the tie for Sunderland against Oxford United after Christ Makosso was adjudged to have fouled Dennis Cirkin.
