Matt Crocker will leave The FA for Southampton

Matt Crocker is to leave The FA in early 2020 to take up a new role as director of football operations with Southampton.

As head of development team coaching, Crocker, who joined The FA in 2013, has played a key role across our men’s age groups including the unprecedented U17 and U20 World Cup victories in 2017, and helped put in place strong foundations at St. George’s Park. He'll continue with his responsibilities during his notice period helping with the transition towards a new appointment as the new-look FA technical directorate moves forward under Les Reed’s leadership.

Technical director Les Reed said: “Matt has served The FA for six years and I fully understand his desire for a new challenge, especially at a club he knows so well. This is a fantastic opportunity to test himself in the Premier League and a challenge he has aspired to for some time. I wish him and Southampton well and I am sure his new role will also will have a benefit for England teams in the years to come. He will always be welcome at St. George’s Park, where I am very excited about the performance-focused team we are developing in order to achieve future success.”
