Sol Campbell suffered his first-ever FA Cup first round defeat as Southend were beaten by Dover

Maldon & Tiptree produced the result of the first round as they knocked Leyton Orient out of the FA Cup with a 2-1 victory at Brisbane Road despite being four levels below them in the English league system.

The visitors arrived with a perfect eight wins from eight in the Isthmian League North and opened the scoring two minutes before half time through Danny Parish.

And Carl Fletcher’s side were caught on the break for a second time on 65 minutes when Jorome Slew ran from the edge of his own box to fire in from the edge of the Orient area.

The O's pulled one back straight away as James Dayton lobbed Jammers keeper Ben McNamara and Maldon & Tiptree finished the game with ten men as Parish received a second yellow card for simulation.

McNamara pulled off crucial late saves from Matt Harrold and James Alabi in the closing stages as they hung on to secure the upset.

Ruel Sotiriou scored a late winner on his Dover debut to beat Southend United 1-0 and condemn Sol Campbell to his first-ever FA Cup first round defeat.

The striker, who signed on loan from Leyton Orient earlier this month, netted the only goal of the game – a superb solo effort with five minutes to go – to send Dover through to the second round against a side 36 league places above them in the English football pyramid.

Elsewhere Macclesfield Town, previously managed by four-time FA Cup winner Campbell, suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Kingstonian.

Without most of their first-team players, Macclesfield went behind after just seven minutes when Dan Hector scored and moments later it was 2-0 courtesy of Louie Theophanous.

Dan Bennett tapped in to make it 3-0 two minutes after the break when a Theophanous shot hit the post and the latter then scored his second putting Kingstonian into the second round for the first time since 2000-01.

Bromley sprung a surprise on League One side Bristol Rovers when Chris Bush scored a late equaliser to cancel out Luke Leahy’s earlier goal and force a replay back at Hayes Lane as it finished 1-1.

And there were routine away victories for Fleetwood Town and Northampton Town as they beat Barnet 2-0 and Chippenham Town 3-0 respectively.

Jonny Smith ensured Oldham Athletic made is through to round two with the winner in a 2-1 win at Gateshead

Filipe Morais had put the visitors ahead in the first half but an equaliser from Liam Agnew made a game of it before Smith cut inside with just over ten minutes to play and sent the Latics into the second round for the seventh time in nine years.

And Oxford United earned a 2-0 win at Hayes & Yeading while Wrexham held Rochdale to a 0-0 draw to force the replay in the only goalless draw of the first round so far.
