Billericay make goalkeeper's weekend heroics count in Emirates FA Cup replay

Tuesday 22 Oct 2019
Tuesday featured seven replays from the weekend's Emirates FA Cup action

In the build-up Jamie O’Hara had called on Billericay Town to ensure Alan Julian’s astonishing weekend leveller would count in the Emirates FA Cup – and boy did it count as the Blues ruthlessly despatched Sutton United 5-2 in their Fourth Round Qualifying replay.

In case you missed it Julian’s heroic feat came in the 1-1 draw with Sutton on Saturday as his thumping injury-time header forced a replay, as Billericay now reach the Emirates FA Cup first round proper for a third consecutive campaign.

Sutton scored first on the night but Jake Robinson soon levelled, Sam Deering made it 2-1 and Robinson took it to 3-1 with a stunning lob.

Ony Alfa struck soon after the restart, Tommy Wright replied, but the night was all Robinsons as he completed his hat-trick to set up a tie at Forest Green Rovers.

Eastleigh were also big scorers on a dramatic night of seven replays, brushing Welling United aside 4-2.

The Conference Premier side had been held to a 0-0 away from home on Saturday but were in no mood for a lack of goals in the replay as Scott Rendell struck a penalty after just 11 minutes.

Welling quickly replied but from there on in there was only one winner as Ben Williamson made it 2-1 on 29 minutes, Rendell grabbed his second shortly after the restart and Tom Bearwish rounded off the scoring.

Eastleigh’s fellow conference premier side Wrexham were made to work a bit harder by Chesterfield, the teams split by just a single goal that fell to JJ Hooper on the half-hour.

Maidenhead United will look forward to taking down mid-table League One opposition in the shape of Rotherham in the next round, after they won 2-0 away at Wealdstone.

Josh Kelly gave the Magpies the lead after just 14 minutes and repeated the trick at the start of the second half to double the lead, Wealdstone unable to find any roads back.

Barnet ran Billericay close for goals on the night as Darren Currie’s side ensured there would be no more fairy tales for Potters Bar, who had equalised in the 101st minute at the weekend to force the replay.

Potters Par took the lead early on but knockout punches came from Josh Walker, Ephron Mason-Clark and Jack Taylor to set up Barnet versus Fleetwood Town in November.

Elsewhere Ebbsfleet were 1-0 winners at Woking and there was another goalscoring goalkeeper at Poole Town as Luke Cairney headed into the net in injury time, but this time not a winner as Hayes and Yeading progressed 3-2.

There was also one tie replayed on Monday night as Stourbridge progressed 3-2 at home to Whitby Town after drawing 1-1 on Saturday.

The replay was altogether more dramatic as Stourbridge came back from 2-0 down after an early aerial bombardment from their visitors.

But the Glassboys weren’t down for long as Dave Bellis struck in the first half, leaving late goals for super sub Alex Nicholls and defender Kristian Green to set up a first round fixture against Eastleigh.

The full first round draw was made on Monday night and can be viewed here, while last weekend's results from the fourth round qualifying can be viewed here.

The first round is scheduled for the weekend of Saturday 9 November, with winning clubs collecting £36,000 from The FA prize fund.
