Phil Neville has assured Jill Scott that this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France should not be her last tournament.

Scott, 32, is England’s second most-capped player, behind only Karen Carney, with 136 international appearances.

The Manchester City midfielder has impressed on the domestic front this season, lifting both the SSE Women’s FA Cup and the FA Women’s Continental League Cup.

Scott believes she is at her peak and wants to prove it on the biggest stage.

She said: “I still feel like I am in the prime of my career.

“I don’t feel like it’s over yet. I just want to go there and work hard and see what happens because it is the biggest tournament of your life.”

Neville has affirmed his faith in Scott and echoed her comments about playing at the top of her game.

She revealed that Neville spoke to her ahead of the tournament to convince her that she can enjoy more tournament football after this.

However, Scott just wants to focus on the task at hand in France with their first match coming against Scotland on Sunday.

“I hope this isn’t my last tournament,” the midfielder said. “Phil keeps saying to me that I have another tournament in me, and I just tell him that I want to get through this one first.

“I’ve played a lot of minutes for Manchester City this season and that’s just something I’ll have to monitor along the way.”

Despite this being her fourth World Cup, Scott was overwhelmed by the news that she would be included in the squad for what promises to be the highest-profile event yet.

“I was absolutely buzzing,” she said. “When people keep saying that this will be my fourth one, I still have to pinch myself. I can still remember my first one [China 2007] like it was yesterday.

“I can tell you anything about any tournament that I’ve ever been to, that’s how much it means to me. I am really just excited to be going to my fourth one.”

Scott scored in England’s penultimate warm-up match, a 2-0 victory over Denmark.

She also started in England’s last match against Scotland, a 6-0 win at the start of the Euro 2017.

The experienced star will be looking for any victory when they meet Shelley Kerr’s side in their opening Group D fixture in Nice.
