Man City Cup hero Jill Scott fired up by record crowd at Wembley

The growing number of passionate women’s football fans spurred Manchester City on to Cup glory at Wembley Stadium in May, said Jill Scott.

The Citizens midfielder scored late on as Nick Cushing’s side defeated Birmingham City 4-1 in last season’s Final to win the SSE Women’s FA Cup for the first time in their history.

And she believes the record crowd that packed in to the home of football had a huge impact on City’s performance.

Scott said: “It’s one of the best memories that I’ll probably ever have, walking out in front of 35,000 at Wembley, and the fact that many people had come to watch a women’s football game.

“I remember walking out for the warm-up and getting a burst of energy, and that was definitely from the atmosphere. You could just feel it and I wanted to soak it all up.

“The fans were closer to the pitch that you’d think and you could hear them shouting people’s names.

“It definitely gave us all an extra buzz. We went out all guns blazing for the first 20 minutes and I really believe the crowd urged us on and gave us that extra energy.”

Tickets are already on sale for this season’s Final, which will again be staged at Wembley, on Saturday 5 May 2018.

Any club or school that buy between 12 and 49 tickets by Wednesday 8 November will automatically be entered into a draw to win free coach travel to and from the game.

Meanwhile, any fan that purchases general admission tickets by the same date will go straight into the hat for the chance to win four Club Wembley tickets to an England match of their choice.

Tickets are priced £15 for adults while kids go FREE.

Scott added: “Wembley is where everyone dreams of playing football.

“Walking up the stairs, lifting the Cup, seeing your family and friends in the crowd; it was the perfect day.

“The Wembley dressing room is like something out of a dream. To see your shirt hanging up in the Wembley dressing room on Cup Final day is what it’s all about.”
