A jubilant Nick Cushing described Manchester City’s SSE Women’s FA Cup Final victory as "exceptional", after the Citizens lifted the trophy for the first time.

The City head coach saw his side run out 4-1 winners over Birmingham City thanks to goals from Lucy Bronze, Izzy Christiansen, Carli Lloyd and Jill Scott to ensure his side hold all three domestic honours.

And Cushing could not contain his delight for his players who impressed at the grand surroundings of Wembley.

“It was an exceptional performance from everyone, I did not have to say much to get them motivated,” said Cushing.

“They have shown they are big-game players time and time again. We showed all our experience and it was just exceptional.”

Keira Walsh put in a superb all-round display and Cushing paid homage to the youngster’s maturity on the big stage.

He added: “She was just phenomenal. To put in that kind of performance as a 20-year-old was exceptional.

“We showed we are big team and proved we are the best in England. We just have to keep doing that and be a dominant force.”

Meanwhile, despite the defeat, Birmingham head coach Marc Skinner said his side must take positives from the performance.

“I think we showed more of ourselves in the second half,” Skinner said.

“It is a really big moment for a young group and they will learn from this. There are much more promising times ahead.

“When you play our system you have to be brave. I know where we have to go and what we have to do. We will adapt and we know what we have to do to move forward.”
