Sholing create history by making FA Youth Cup second round

Sholing made history in the FA Youth Cup as they reached the second round proper for the first time after defeating Clevedon Town.

Following a tense 90 minutes, the match was settled by two spectacular strikes in extra-time by Jean-Luc Radmin to preserve Sholing’s historic run.

Dagenham & Redbridge prevailed in a 10-goal thriller against Hitchin Town during an action-packed week of first round clashes.

Despite having David Agboola sent off just four minutes into the second half, braces from Luke Hirst, Dylan Florence and Lanru Balogun saw the Daggers edge through 6-4 to face Clanfield 85 in the next round.

There were plenty of goals across the midweek fixtures as Colchester battled back from 3-0 down to oust Cheshunt 5-4 at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

George Smith fired home for the visitors after just 12 seconds as goals from Tariq Bakkali and an own goal from Olli Kensdale had Cheshunt in dreamland.

Callum Jones’ penalty gave United hope before Chris Jospeh-Forino’s own goal and Noah Chilvers drew the U’s level.

A brace from Dean Ager put the home side in a commanding lead before Joseph-Forino’s effort set up a nervy finish.

Northampton Town ensured there would be no upset at Stratford Fields as they came from behind to defeat Buckingham Athletic 4-2.

Tom McIlroy put Athletic into the lead but a brace from James Gillard but the young Cobblers in front at the break.

Ben Quay equalised for Buckingham but Ryan Hughes and Sean Whaler were on hand to seal Town’s progress.

Port Vale needed extra-time to avoid an upset as they battled back from behind twice against Stourbridge to prevail 3-2 thanks to substitute Maxwell Chimenes late strike.

Plymouth Argyle and Rotherham United inflicted two of the heaviest defeats of the round as they beat Eastleigh 7-2 and Bottesford Town 7-0 respectively.

AFC Wimbledon, who made the fifth round proper last season, got their cup run off to the perfect start with a comfortable 3-0 win over Marlow.

Elsewhere, there were victories for 2012 FA Youth Cup finalists Blackburn Rovers, who beat Tranmere Rovers, Chesterfield got the better of Notts County and Portsmouth dumped out Gillingham 2-1 in extra-time.
