Following The FA Writing Challenges competition, linked to the SSE Women’s FA Cup Final, The Football Association and National Literacy Trust have teamed up once again to create a toolkit for teachers based around England’s Euro 2017 finals campaign.
The free ‘Literacy with the Lionesses’ toolkit uses the excitement of the summer showpiece to develop boys’ and girls’ reading and writing skills.
It is packed with fun football-themed activities for boys and girls in Years 5 to 8, including writing tips from top football authors and reading engagement ideas for the whole school.

Alongside the toolkit, top football author Tom Palmer will be writing a mini-story that follows the Lionesses at the Euros. He will release a chapter at a time during the summer term, starting on 3 July. You can read the first chapter in the toolkit, and the subsequent chapters can be downloaded from the National Literacy Trust website.
The story will be written by Tom as the tournament is happening, and is designed to be read aloud to a whole class or in an assembly.

England face Scotland in their Euro 2017 opener in Utrecht on Wednesday 19 July, before playing Spain in Breda on Sunday 23 July and Portugal in Tilburg on Thursday 27 July.
