England new boy Danny Drinkwater says he’s keen to make the most of the chance that’s been handed to him.

The Leicester City midfielder linked up with the squad on Tuesday having been handed his first-ever senior call-up ahead of this month’s games against Germany and the Netherlands.

And Drinkwater says it’s now down to him to make himself a more regular fixture in the Three Lions camp: “I have been given a small chance here to show what I am capable of and it is up to me to take it.

“If I do, I’ll be hoping that if I can stake my claim for that position.

“I don’t think England have been short of having a quality midfield – or anyone on the pitch for that matter – but I guess having competition for places always helps push yourself in a way. It can only benefit us.”
