England legends Marieanne Spacey and Alan Shearer have been celebrated in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Former England captain Shearer, who was made an OBE in 2001, is elevated to a CBE in recognition of his work for charities in the north-east of England, particularly as patron for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and the Alan Shearer Centre for people with complex disabilities.

Spacey is recognised with an MBE for her services to football, over a career when she represented England 91 times, scoring 28 goals, and is now assistant head coach with England Women’s Senior team.

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes, who last year won the FA WSL and SSE Women’s FA Cup double, is also given an MBE, as does Rachel Anderson, the first female FIFA-licensed football agent.

Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson is made an OBE for his services to the economy, sport and community on Teesside.

Meanwhile Anna Kessel, journalist and chair of Women in Football, receives an MBE for services to journalism and women's sport.
