The Emirates FA Cup first round proper draw completed

Monday 26 Oct 2015

The 32 remaining non-League sides in the 2015-16 Emirates FA Cup learned their fate on Monday evening as the first round draw was made.

As always the draw, which this time took place in the clubhouse of Thackley Juniors FC in West Yorkshire, threw up many intriguing encounters.

The lowest-ranked side in the hat – Didcot Town, in the competition proper for the first time and currently 15th in the Southern League Division One South & West – were handed a home tie with Exeter City.

Salford City and Whitehawk – also in the draw for the first time – will play at home to Notts County and Tranmere Rovers or Lincoln City respectively.

AFC Rushden & Diamonds - who play their football in the Southern League Division One Central - are the only other side never to have been in the first round proper before.

And if they navigate their way past a replay against Barwell, they will face a home tie against Grays Athletic or Welling United.

Chesham United, who have not played in the first round since 1994, face an exciting trip to Bristol Rovers.

Meanwhile Worcester City, who won at Coventry City in the first round of the 2014-15 competition,  were handed a plum tie away to Sheffield United.

Carlisle United supporters face the longest trip of the round – a 780-mile round journey to Home Park and Plymouth Argyle.

In a rare occurrence, the Emirates FA Cup winners from just over two years ago were also in the hat – and Wigan Athletic have a Lancashire derby and a short trip to Gigg Lane to take on Bury.

Alan Devonshire, an FA Cup winner with West Ham in 1980 and now in charge of Maidenhead United, will take his side to Port Vale to face the League One side.

Another Cup winner – Teddy Sheringham – will line his Stevenage side up against the highest-ranked team in the competition, League One table-toppers Gillingham.

All ties will be played over the weekend of Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November.
