The Emirates FA Cup round-up

Didcot Town came from two goals down to reach the FA Cup first round for the first time in their history, eventually winning a pulsating tie 4-2 against Brentwood Town.

The visitors were two goals to the good inside ten minutes as Craig Reid’s volley and a Jamie Guy strike gave them the early advantage.

But Diddy were level before half-time as a goalkeeping error allowed Mark Janes to score before Jack Longford’s 40th-minute header tied things up.

Brentwood where then reduced to ten men as Josh Banton saw red for a headbutt on Jack Powell and after Josh Dutton-Black gave the hosts the lead for the first time in the 80th minute it was Powell who sealed a famous win late on.

Havant and Waterlooville were another side to claw back a two-goal deficit as they held Cheltenham Town to a 3-3 draw at Westleigh Park in a thrilling tie.

A Danny Wright penalty had the Vanarama National League side ahead at half-time, while Aaron Downes added a second shortly after the break.

The Hawks hit back immediately through Dan Strugnell and although Wright added his second of the game, goals from James Hayter and Matt Paterson secured a replay for the hosts.

Elsewhere, Chris Todd earned his first win as permanent manager of Eastleigh as Jai Reason’s second-half effort capped a fine 2-1 win away to Bromley.

Aldershot Town progressed to the first round as Rhys Browne’s strike sealed a 1-0 win over Sutton United, while Dion Charles scored the only goal of the game as AFC Fylde beat Barrow by the same scoreline.

Others to grab a 1-0 win were Altrincham at home to Chester, Gainsborough Trinity at Wrexham and James Poole’s audacious lob from just over the halfway line helped Salford City pip Southport by a single goal.

Grimsby were comfortable 4-1 winners away to Harrogate Town as Padraig Amond scored twice and similarly a Chris Flood double gave Basingstoke Town a comfortable 3-0 win over Torquay, with Maidenhead United also scoring three in a dominate win over Woking.

Kurtis Guthrie’s 72nd-minute strike helped Forest Green Rovers to a 2-1 win over National League South’s Margate after Luke Moore had cancelled out Keanu Marsh-Brown’s first-half effort.

While on Friday night Northwich Victoria and Chorley played out a goalless draw largely thanks to Vics’ substitute goalkeeper Dane Smith, meaning they will do battle again in a replay on Tuesday evening.

There are also replays between Barwell and AFC Rushden and Diamonds, Halifax and Guiseley and Tranmere and Lincoln City with the first round draw taking place on Monday.
