Jamie Vardy scored for the seventh successive match

Jamie Vardy scored his seventh goal in seven Premier League games to help Leicester consolidate fifth place in the Premier League table with a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

The England striker took advantage of Brede Hangeland's error after 59 minutes to fire home from three yards out and join England legend Alan Shearer in an elite club of players to have netted in seven successive Premier League matches.

There was also joy for another England striker as Andy Carroll came off the bench to net the winner for West Ham against London rivals Chelsea.

Carl Jenkinson took his spot in the West Ham line-up and Mauro Zarate gave the Hammers the lead before Nemanja Matic was dismissed for a second yellow card.

Gary Cahill did manage to pull Chelsea level but Carroll netted after 79 minutes and sealed all three points to send Slaven Bilic's men third.

Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain played their part as Arsenal saw off Everton 2-1 to take top-spot in the league.

Goals for Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny put the Gunners in the driving seat before Ross Barkley netted for the Toffees.

Phil Jagielka, John Stones and Brendon Galloway were all included in Roberto Martinez's starting XI but they could do little to stop the Gunners.

Elsewhere, Swansea saw off Aston Villa 2-1 with Jonjo Shelvey involved from the start while Jack Butland conceded two as Stoke went down at home to Watford.

And Jose Salomon Rondon netted in the 47th minute to help West Bromwich Albion to a 1-0 win over Norwich.

Saido Berahino played 88 minutes for the Baggies, while Rickie Lambert replaced goalscorer Rondon after 74 minutes and helped see out the victory – Under-21s star Nathan Redmond starting for Norwich.

In the Championship, Moses Odubajo helped Hull maintain the pressure at the top of the table as they ran out 2-0 winners over a Birmingham side that saw Demarai Gray play 45 minutes.

That win sees Hull second but level on points with third-placed Burnley who brought U20s forward Chris Long on for the final five minutes of their 1-0 triumph over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Derby are a point behind having lost just once in 13 matches and they maintained that good form with a 2-1 win over Huddersfield – Jamie Hanson getting 15 minutes after replacing Johnny Russell.

At the other end of the table U19s starlet Karl Ahearne-Grant could do nothing to stop Brentford running away with a 3-0 win over Charlton while Sheyi Ojo and Kortney Hause were both on the losing end as Wolves were downed 3-1 at Middlesbrough.

And Lewis Cook and Alex Mowatt helped Leeds to a 1-1 draw with Bolton while on-loan Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles helped Ipswich to a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

In League One, U20s striker Kwame Thomas came on after 77 minutes for Blackpool in their 2-0 win over Crewe Alexandra and Newcastle United loanee and U19s star Adam Armstrong lasted 78 minutes for Coventry in a 2-2 draw against Swindon.
