Raheem Sterling, Jamie Vardy and Wayne Rooney all netted on Saturday

After bagging the first hat-trick of his career in Manchester City’s 5-1 win over Bournemouth, Raheem Sterling promised to keep working on his finishing.

City’s £49m summer signing from Liverpool hit a first-half treble to go with Wilfried Bony’s double, while Joe Hart was beaten at the other end by Glenn Murray.

Sterling was happy with victory and his goals as he took his season total to six.

“It’s my first hat-trick and I’m delighted," he said.

“I definitely work on my finishing. I get a quite lot of chances and it’s something I’ll keep working on and hopefully get better at.

“Most importantly though, I’m happy that the team got the three points. I think we played some good stuff at times and I’m really happy with the three points.”

Jamie Vardy struck twice as Leicester City recovered from two goals down to draw with Southampton.

Defender Carl Jenkinson was on target as West Ham won 3-1 away at Crystal Palace, who had Dwight Gayle sent off, while Saido Berahino got his name on the scoresheet in West Brom’s 1-0 win over Sunderland.

England skipper Wayne Rooney bagged his sixth goal of the season to put the seal on Manchester United’s 3-0 win at Everton.

His strike against his former club was his 187th in the Premier League and took him level with Andy Cole as the joint-second highest goalscorer in the top flight, behind Alan Shearer.

Elsewhere, keeper Jordan Pickford, who played in the Under-21s 3-0 win over Kazakhstan on Tuesday, kept his third clean sheet of the season for Preston as they were held to a goalless draw at home to Cardiff City.

Within seconds of Chuba Akpom’s arrival from the bench for Hull City - fresh from his debut goal for the U21s against Kazakhstan - he set-up Abel Hernandez to help earn his side a point at Sheffield Wednesday.

In-form Adam Armstrong - on loan from Newcastle - could not add to his tally of eight for Coventry City this campaign as they were held to a goalless draw by Blackpool, with new loan signing Joe Cole watching on from the stands.

And Tyler Blackett completed 90 minutes as Celtic returned to the top of the Scottish Premiership with a 1-0 win at Motherwell.
