England rise up to fifth in FIFA Women's World Rankings

England’s record-breaking performance at the Women’s World Cup has been reflected in a rise up to fifth in the FIFA World Rankings.

The Lionesses finished third at the tournament in Canada following last weekend’s victory over Germany in the third-place game.

And Mark Sampson’s displays have been recognised in the latest rankings, moving up to their highest-ever placing.

World Cup winners USA top the list following their impressive 5-2 win over Japan in Sunday’s final, a result which sees former champions Japan move down to fourth.

Previous leaders Germany drop down to second in the rankings, while quarter-finalists France are in fourth spot.
