As FA Cup fever sweeps the city, a lucky young Cambridge United fan won an ultimate FA Cup Adventure, ahead of The U’s Fourth Round clash against Manchester United.

Lewis Burkett, 11, was selected from thousands of entries in a competition run by The Football Association. Now the avid Cambridge fan will not only be heading to Wembley Stadium as a flag bearer at one of The FA Cup Semi-Finals, but he also got the chance to take the famous trophy on a unique adventure.

Designed to bring the fans closer to the adventure of The FA Cup, the competition gives youngsters the chance to get their hands on The FA Cup - and Lewis took it on a trip down Cambridge’s famous River Cam.

David Burkett, Lewis’s father, said: “Both Lewis and I are still in shock.

“Being a flag bearer at the Semi-Final will mean the world to him, and having the chance to take the actual FA Cup on an adventure in Cambridge is something he’ll never forget."

This scheme enables boys and girls aged between 6 and 14 the chance to be part of football’s oldest knockout competition.

The initiative is part of a wider FA Cup Adventure campaign launched by The FA this season which has seen the trophy travel all the way to the South Pole.

With a series of prizes and adventures still up for grabs, football fans are being urged to visit The FA Cup Facebook page for more information.
