Fans turn out in numbers for the magic of The FA Cup

Ipswich Town took over 5,000 to Southampton

The weekend’s FA Cup action saw over 450,000 fans attend games across the country, generating one of the best Third Round averages in the last decade. 

Both Chelsea and Manchester City had crowds of over 40,000, while 59,439 were at the Emirates to see a re-run of last season’s FA Cup Final between Arsenal and Hull City. 

Watford, Ipswich Town, Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United all took more than 5,000 away fans to their ties against Premier League opposition. Wigan Athletic, winners in 2013, bowed out at Bolton Wanderers in front of 3,090 Latics. 

Non-league sides Blyth Spartans and Dover Athletic enjoyed near-capacity crowds against Birmingham City and Crystal Palace respectively as the Third Round recorded an average crowd of 16,298 across 28 ties. 

Those numbers could rise further with AFC Wimbledon v Liverpool and Burnley v Tottenham Hotspur on Monday evening. On Tuesday it's Everton v West Ham United and Scunthorpe United v Chesterfield.
