Australia, Finland and Netherlands in store for Lions

England Women have been pitched alongside Australia, Finland and Netherlands in Group B at this year’s Cyprus Cup.

The annual competition, which the Lionesses have won twice, will take place between 4-11 March, though fixtures have yet to be confirmed.

Mark Sampson’s side will use the tournament as preparation for this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be staged in Canada from 6 June until 5 July. England have been drawn in Group F with France, Colombia and Mexico.

England finished runners-up to France at last season’s Cyprus Cup, and defeated Finland 3-0 in the group stage.

But next up is a testing encounter against USA, second in the world rankings, in Milton Keynes on Friday 13 February.

The last time the two sides met was before the 2011 World Cup, when goals from Rachel Yankey and Jess Clarke gave England a 2-1 win at Leyton Orient.
