The visitors pulled one back shortly after the break, when captain Jamie Spencer nodded in from a corner, but Chelsea soon struck again.

Another Young Lion, Jay DaSilva, who provided the cross for each of the first two goals then saw his low effort turned into his own net by Jacob Hanson.

Two more England youngsters then scored, with substitute Ike Ugbo tucking home a simple rebound after the post denied Abraham a hat-trick, while Dujon Sterling slotted home on his debut to make it five.

Abraham did grab a third, however, poking home from close range late on to wrap up a convincing win for the reigning champions.

Leicester City are also safely into the fourth round after putting an end to Cheltenham Town’s impressive cup run with a 5-0 win.

Layton Ndukwu put the hosts ahead on eight minutes, before crossing for Admiral Muskwe to head home a second.

Ndukwu then doubled his tally for the evening shortly before the break with a low drive form outside the box.

Muskwe’s second arrived six minutes into the second half, curling in from 20 yards out, before captain Darnell Johnson popped up at the back post to head in a fifth.

Elsewhere, substitute Roy Lee almost inspired an unlikely comeback for Ilkeston, who ultimately slipped to a 3-2 defeat at home to Newcastle United.

Lewis McNall scored either side of a deflected Mackenzie Heaney goal, as Newcastle opened up a three-goal lead at half time.

Lee fired home shortly after his introduction and scored a looping header just two minutes later as Ilkeston threatened to turn the game on its head, but an equaliser evaded them.

And Liverpool saw off the challenge of Ipswich, winning 2-1 at Langtree Park to set up a fourth round tie with Cardiff City.

Adam Phillips flicked home Ben Woodburn’s cross after just three minutes but Sam Ford levelled things up shortly after.

However, Toni Gomes headed home what proved to be the winner after 25 minutes, guiding a Kris Owens cross into the net.
