England Women celebrate their World Cup win over Germany

England Women capped off a remarkable 2015 by scooping the prestigious BT Sport Action Woman of the Year award.

The Lionesses beat off opposition from the England hockey team, 2013 winner and mountain biker Rachel Atherton, and Jessica Ennis-Hill to win the award, and collected it live in front of the BT Sport cameras.

England captain Steph Houghton said: "Winning the BT Sport Action Woman award means so much to the team and the staff and we’d like to thank everybody who voted for us.

“To be nominated in the same category as so many amazing sportswomen and teams was a massive honour for us.

“2015 has been an amazing year for us and for women’s football. Hopefully awards such as this will bring more attention to the women’s game and encourage more girls to start playing.”
