Chelsea defender Niamh Fahey says she’s gunning for victory against former side Arsenal this weekend as The FA WSL 1 title race hots up – live on BT Sport.

With three points separating the top four sides, it appears last season’s final-day showdown is likely to be repeated and Chelsea and Arsenal will probably be in the reckoning.

The Blues currently lead the way in the table but with Sunderland, the Gunners and Manchester City all within touching distance of Emma Hayes’ side, Sunday’s clash at Boreham Wood could prove pivotal.

And Fahey, who spent six years with Arsenal before moving across London at the end of 2014, admits she can’t wait to get going.

"It’s a big game, especially now we’re entering the business end of the season so we’ll be doing everything to try and claim maximum points," said Fahey.

"The league is so tight at the minute, it’s hard to know how it is going to go.

"Being a former Arsenal player, it does give the game a bit of extra spice as far as I’m concerned, but I’m very much a Chelsea player now, so there won’t be any love lost on Sunday.

"They probably know as much about us as we do about them, despite there being plenty of former Arsenal players in our ranks, but we’re confident of getting a result."

These two sides know each other well having also been drawn together in The FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup.

And Arsenal actually ran out 2-0 winners last weekend against the Blues to steal a march in Group One, and Gunners defender Jemma Rose is looking to build on that result in the league.

"I think our 2-0 victory over Chelsea in the Continental Tyres Cup was not just about getting the win, but also putting in a massive performance," said Rose.

"We’ve been bullied a lot in other games but that win showed we can stand up for ourselves and play some good football against a strong side like Chelsea.

"It was also really key to get a clean sheet against a team that has such good strikers.

"However I think it’s going to be a completely different game this weekend because they rested a few players and both teams have a massive incentive to win.

"They’re two points above us in the league so if we win we can go one point above them and hopefully we can carry on our recent performances."
