Last year the top flight of women’s football in England went down to the final day, with Birmingham City, Chelsea and Liverpool all in with a shout before the trophy headed for Merseyside.

And this term the race for the title could be even more fiercely contested, with four sides in the hunt with two thirds of the season gone.

Last year’s WSL 2 champions Sunderland lead Arsenal only on goal difference, while Chelsea and Manchester City are well-placed to pounce.

Alex Scott and Casey Stoney’s Arsenal hit the screens on Sunday 9 August (5.30pm on BT Sport 1), when a lavishly gifted Gunners side take on Manchester City, led by England captain Steph Houghton, and featuring the red-hot scoring talents of Toni Duggan and World Cup star Lucy Bronze among others.

Then a fortnight later (Sunday 23 August, live on BT Sport 1, 5.30pm) cameras return to Borehamwod‘s Meadow Park, where Arsenal play host to SSE Women’s FA Cup-winners Chelsea, who can field international talents such as Eniola Aluko, Ji So-Yun, Katie Chapman and Claire Rafferty.
