Jack Wilshere made his return to action on Tuesday evening for Arsenal’s Under-21 side.

The England midfielder played the full 90 minutes for the Gunners in their 4-1 win over Stoke City at the Emirates Stadium, after missing the last four months with an ankle injury.

Wilshere last played for England in November before picking up his ankle injury

And the 23-year-old is now targeting a return to Arsene Wenger’s first-team squad, as they continue to challenge for both The FA Cup and Premier League.

"You can train as much as you like but you can't get that match fitness unless you play," Wilshere told Arsenal.com after the game.

"In the Premier League, you know how quick it is so you have to get back to that speed."

Wenger’s side currently sit second in the table and will also face Reading at Wembley in The FA Cup Semi-Final later this month.

And Wilshere believes with more training and U21 appearances under his belt, he could be back in time for that game as the north London outfit look to retain the Cup.

"I feel like I'm ready to play some part," he added.

"When you're injured you look at your comeback date and the games around that time.

"The one that stands out is The FA Cup semi-final, but even before that we've got big games and we've got to go to Manchester United as well, so there's a chance to play this season."
