Jordon Ibe says he cannot wait to continue his international progression as he prepares to make his bow for England U20s.

The Liverpool forward, who signed for Derby County for the remainder of the season in August, is with the U20s at St. George's Park as they get ready to kick off their season with a home match against Romania on Friday.

And Ibe, who has been a regular throughout the international age groups, says he is relishing the chance to continue his development with Aidy Boothroyd's outfit.

"I’m really looking forward to the game," said the 18-year-old.

"It’s obviously great to be included in any age group for England so I was really pleased when I found out I would be involved in the squad. I love playing for my country and I hope I can be involved with the U20s throughout the season.

"Hopefully this squad can go far because there are some great players here."

He continued: "Getting the call-up always makes me feel really happy.

"In any age group there’s a lot of players all competing for a very limited amount of spaces on the international side of things – so from that aspect it’s something that makes me really proud.

"Just playing for England is really great, so I hope to continue this development and hopefully progress through all the age groups and on to the senior side one day."

The match will also be Aidy Boothroyd's first in charge.

However, the former Watford, Northampton Town and Coventry City boss spent time with many of the group while assisting Noel Blake's U19s in 2013-14.

And Ibe says he and all the players are relishing the opportunity to work with Boothroyd again.

“All the players really like Aidy and get on with him really well. It's great working with him again”

"A lot of us have worked with him already," he added.

"The training sessions were really fun and he’s a really funny, lively guy.

"All the players really like him and get on with him really well. That said, he is also serious when he needs to be and commands respect.

"But he’s a really down to earth guy and it's great working with him again."

England take on Romania in Telford at 7.30pm on Friday 3 September.
