Patrick Bamford is hoping the Middlesbrough public can come out and get behind England Under-21s next March.

The Three Lions take on Germany at Boro’s Riverside Stadium in their next game, as preparations for the summer’s Euro Finals takes the next step.

Chelsea striker Bamford is currently on loan with Boro and has played a big part in their impressive start to the campaign with five goals to his name.

And with the Germans likely to be one of the major contenders at the Finals in Czech Republic next June, Bamford knows the game will be an ideal test for Gareth Southgate’s team.

"Playing teams like Germany gives us a benchmark of what we need to do to improve and how well we are actually doing," said Bamford, who made his Under-21s debut in the victory over Portugal earlier this month.

"Germany at Middlesbrough will be a great occasion, I think one of the things that I noticed when I came to the north is that football is everyone’s life.

"At the minute, we are bringing in more fans and we are doing well so a big game like England versus Germany, hopefully will get a big crowd.

"We [Middlesbrough] are doing well at the minute and the atmosphere is getting louder and louder.

"The fans at Middlesbrough are great so I can only imagine what the atmosphere will be like should we get a full-crowd for the England versus Germany game."

The former Nottingham Forest youngster has been a regular in England squads, being capped at U18 and U19 level prior to his first call-up for the Under-21s last season.

And while opportunities have been hard to come by under Southgate due to the form of Saido Berahino, Harry Kane and Danny Ings, he has become a regular member of the squad and won his second cap in the win against Portugal at Turf Moor.

"I love being with the England Under-21s," revealed the former MK Dons and Derby County loanee.

"Training is very competitive but also very enjoyable. The togetherness with the England Under-21s is the same as it is with Middlesbrough. There are a lot of friendships in the group which makes it easier and everyone gets along with each other. I am really enjoying it."

Bamford also believes the Teesside crowd will be treated to a good match too, with the Under-21s having been in good form by winning 11 successive games until last Monday’s 3-2 reverse against France.

"I think not only for the adults to come and see how England’s next generation is doing and how we are playing football, it’s a great chance also for children to come, watch and learn," he said.

"I remember when I was younger I went to watch the England Under-21s against France at Nottingham Forest and that was great, so I think for the youngsters to come to the game next March it will be similar to that.

"Hopefully it will be a cracking atmosphere."

Tickets for the game are on sale now, priced at £10 for adults or £1 for U16s, over 65s and students. Supporters with an MFC Season Card can also buy tickets for just £5.
