Entering the final ten minutes of normal play, the tie looked destined for extra-time and penalties before Molesley poked home inside the penalty box after a scramble, leaving the triumphant home fans marched into the night singing: "There's only one team in Hampshire".

Molesley, after scoring the decider, said: “You can see what it means to everyone. The FA Cup gives a lifeline to so many clubs and boy do we need it.

"It was a gritty performance, a blood and thunder cup tie and that suited us."

Aldershot now face Rochdale in the next stage while Portsmouth's four-year wait for an FA Cup victory continues.

Elsewhere on Wednesday evening. Spennymoor Town won their FA Trophy Second Round Qualifying Replay with Leek Town FC 1-0.

With five minutes of the clash remaining a long pass forward from Spennymoor's Kallum Griffiths was accidentally converted by a Leek player for an own-goal to settle the match.

The FA Trophy Second Round Qualifying match between Lewes and Heybridge Swifts ended in a 1-1 tie and will go to a replay.

Lewes made home advantage count with seconds of the first-half remaining when Ollie Rowe scored moments before the break.

But the Swifts were back in the match on 65 minutes when Neil Richmond grabbed the equaliser.

Both sides made changes, as the clock ticked down, in their own attempts to win the match but the 258 fans in attendance saw a draw played out.
