Head coach Neil Dewsnip weathers the storm in Gdansk

After coming from a goal behind to record a 4-1 victory in Poland Neil Dewsnip was full of praise for his U18s, but challenged them to keep improving.

The Young Lions fell behind to an early goal on ten minutes, Dominic Solanke hit a quick-fire equaliser before a Sheyi Ojo brace and a Ryan Ledson free-kick completed an impressive comeback for England U18s in Gdansk.

"I thought that in the second-half we were outstanding for two reasons," Dewsnip told TheFA.com.

"One, we did take our chances and that was something we'd talked about and killed the opposition off.

"We probably could've had a couple more if I'm being really tough on the lads.

"Then number two, the management of the game was very mature and impressive."

Karlan Ahearne-Grant and Marcus Rashford were called up by the head coach for the double-header – and Dewsnip was positive about the strength in depth at his disposal.

"We are really fortunate and have an abundance of players in this age group," he added.

"We have counted up six or seven that aren't with us, who you could argue would be in a starting eleven, so we are really lucky.

"That's very healthy, not only for England but the boys themselves. If they take anything for granted, then they won't be in the next squad."

“It's an important time for them, they need to remain focussed and keep improving”

And with a number of players making a positive impression on the boss, he says it is an exciting time to be a part of the U18s fold, but he urged his players to remain focused.

"We have Switzerland lined up for the next international break, which will provide another challenge for the group.

"Then we are looking to go greater distances, if possible, in the last break of the season."

He added: "They've finished this particular week on a high, and they all have big games in The FA Youth Cup or in and around their first-teams.

"But it's an important time for them, they need to remain focussed and keep improving."
