Sunday 02 Nov 2014
FC United of Manchester will be in Monday morning's FA Trophy draw
The Premier League derby between Manchester City and Manchester United was not the only match in the north-west on Sunday afternoon, as The FA Trophy also took centre stage for many football fans.

And underdogs Padiham put up a brave battle before ultimately bowing out of The Trophy to two goals in the final half-hour from worthy winners FC United of Manchester.

Padiham, who were United's first ever opponents back in August 2005, were always ranked as the outsiders in this tie as they came into the match bottom of the league below FC United on only nine points.

This was not the first cup meeting between the two sides either, as Padiham suffered a 3-0 defeat in The FA Vase back in October 2006 too.

But they did not go down without a fight in front of an eager 624 crowd .

After long spells of possession and a few chances too, it took a cracking run and finish from man-of-the-match Jerome Wright to break the deadlock in the 60th minute.

And United had to wait until 17 minutes from time before they doubled their lead to book a place in Monday's draw for the Second Round Qualifying when Matt Walwyn scored.

Walwyn had been on the pitch for less than five minutes having only just replaced Matty Kay, but what an impact made by the super sub.
