Danny Welbeck wants to show the world what he can do when he arrives in Brazil with the Three Lions.

The Manchester United forward has already chalked up an impressive tally of eight goals in 21 England appearances, including one against Sweden at Euro 2012.

After training with the squad in Portugal last week, the 23-year-old says he can't wait for the chance to impress at the World Cup with less that three weeks to go before their first game.

"The squad's got together for the first time in preparation for the World Cup and we've had some really good training sessions," he said. "I think everyone is really excited and they are just focused on the World Cup.

"There will always be a bit of excitement for everyone involved but, furthermore, for the younger players, with it being their first tournament, it's just one of those moments you are looking forward to.

"You have to keep your feet on the ground, remain focused and just make sure you play your usual game."

Welbeck continued: "I just want to prove myself - to me and to the World to show everyone what I can do. Going into the World Cup is a massive stage to do that and I can't wait."

Having already suffered tournament heart-ache at the hands of Italy two years ago, Welbeck is looking forward to the chance to take them on in their World Cup opener in Manaus on 14 June.

But he insists England must be fully focused and prepared for the Azzurri.

"To get knocked out by Italy [at Euro 2012] and to play them first in the World Cup is a situation where we want to go into that game and win it," he said.

"You have to be focused, prepare mentally, tactically and physically so you have the best chance."

Welbeck is also pleased to see Manchester United team-mates Phil Jones and Wayne Rooney back in training and "looking strong" following recent injuries.

Defender Jones looked a doubt when he went off with a shoulder injury in United's penultimate Premier League game, while Rooney missed the tail-end of the campaign with a groin problem.

However, both have been in training in Portugal this week and Welbeck expects them to be ready for World Cup action.

"It's good news for Phil and for the team," he said. "It didn't look likely that he'd be able to make it but the treatment that he's had has been first-class and he's looking pretty strong at the moment.

"He's done as much physical work as everyone else, just a bit less contact. Hopefully in the next few days he can keep on improving and get to the stage where he wants to be at."

Welbeck added: "Wayne is a great player for club and country and it's great to have the more experienced players fit and raring to go.

"I know what Wayne can produce on the big stage, so I'm really excited to see what he can do at the World Cup."
