The Isuzu FA Vase

All to play for in second leg after goalless Vase opener

Saturday 29 Mar 2014
The Final will be played at Wembley Stadium

St Andrews could be considered favourites to reach the FA Vase final after they held West Auckland Town to a goalless draw in this semi-final first leg.

Thew two sides will now resume battle at Canal Road this Saturday with everything to play for.

A draw was, perhaps, a fair result in the end and both sides will feel they have a chance of getting to Wembley in May.

West's John Campbell went closest to scoring in this keenly fought tie when he clipped a post with almost half an hour gone.

Second Leg - Saturday 5 April

West Auckland were finalists in 2012 so it is a decent result for Leicestershire side St Andrews, who had to play with ten men in the closing stages after Tom Hodson was sent off

St Andrews had midfielder Brady Hickey playing for them less than 24 hours after he was on duty for England Schoolboys in Bristol.

But it was Declan Towers who was first to show for the visitors when he went close with a header after 20 minutes.

Toby Warner then had an effort well saved as St Andrews threatened to take the lead.

It was after then that West began to look the stronger side and Campbell hit the woodwork. Mattie Moffat had a couple of goalscoring chances too.

The match remained a tense contest in the second half although West failed to take advantage after Hodson was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
