Natasha Dowie scored twice in the 4-0 win over Ukraine in May

Natasha Dowie is thriving on the feel-good factor around the England Women’s team.

The Liverpool striker scored twice last month as Mark Sampson’s side defeated Ukraine 4-0 in Shrewsbury to secure their sixth straight World Cup qualifying win.

They will renew their Group 6 campaign in Belarus on Saturday – and Dowie has really kicked on since she scored her first England goal against the same opposition last September, helping to complete a comfortable 6-0 win.

Speaking to FATV after the squad’s first training session in Minsk, she said of that game in Bournemouth: “I came on, scored with a header and then set Eni [Aluko] up, so I was really pleased with my performance and the team’s performance.

“I was relieved to get my first senior goal. To score, on a home ground as well, was unbelievable.

“I’ve managed to get a couple more goals recently and I’m really enjoying my football at Liverpool and Mark [Sampson] has given me quite a few minutes with the seniors and it is just building my confidence up.

“The girls have been great. We have got such a good team spirit at the minute and I think that’s showing on the pitch with our unbeaten run.

“I’m just enjoying every minute of being away with the seniors. [There is] a really good vibe around the camp and it’s a pleasure to be involved."

Dowie, who has scored five goals in 12 international appearances, went on wish good luck to the England Men’s side as they prepare to begin their World Cup campaign against Italy in Manaus on Saturday.

She added: “Hopefully the boys can do great out there.

“The World Cup’s unbelievable so we’re definitely looking forward to it and we wish them the best of luck.

“Hopefully they can do our country proud.”
