Roy Hodgson reflected positively to his side's penultimate World Cup warm-up game on Wednesday, after seeing England held to a 2-2 draw by Ecuador in Miami.

The Three Lions had to come from behind at the Sun Life Stadium, with goals from Wayne Rooney and Rickie Lambert putting them ahead in the second half only for Ecuador sub Arroyo to net a stunning equaliser.

But Hodgson took plenty of plus points from the match, despite a harsh red card for substitute Raheem Sterling and seeing the impressive Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain limp off with a knee injury.

"This is what this game was about, it was a very young line-up and there was almost a complete 11 players rested from the previous match," said Hodgson.

"But I thought we acquitted ourselves quite brilliantly and played some very good football at times.

"It [Sterling's red card] was harsh, it was a rash tackle but I thought Raheem was unlucky because of the way [Antonio] Valencia reacted like he did.

"I'm disappointed that a senior player like Antonio reacted in that way, but Raheem will learn from that."

Hodgson was also pleased with the way the team's two experienced heads, captain Frank Lampard and Rooney, negotiated the match alongside their young team-mates against a physical and lively Ecuador outfit.

And he felt Rooney's equalising goal in the first half was well deserved after his shift in a new left-sided role for the team.

"I was pleased with the way he played and the way he interpreted the position," added the Three Lions boss.

"It's good for us to know that we have an alternative in that position with Wayne.

"I was happy for him that he scored his goal and both him and Frank Lampard, as the only two on the pitch with any significant number of caps, took their responsibility ever so well.

"They helped see us through what, in my opinion, is quite a well-merited and prestigious draw against a strong Ecuadorian team."

However, Hodgson did admit to having worries about the condition of Oxlade-Chamberlain, who was in eye-catching form throughout until a second-half clash saw him substituted with a knee injury.

"We have our fears that it might be ligament damage and a scan is required." revealed Hodgson.

England will be back in action at the Sun Life Stadium on Saturday evening when they face Honduras in their final match before the World Cup starts next week.
